Last week the seven organisations involved in the TOY-PLUS project had an eventful meeting in Athens. This project, which began almost a year ago is being coordinated by ICDI and is being funded by the European Commission (Erasmus Plus Programme). Our partner Wide Open Academy – REYN Slovakia is collaborating with the city of Spissky Hrhovand its Pre-primary and primary school to create a toy library for young and old, as part of the TOY for Inclusion project.

“The children know each other in school, so they play together,” she said. “And we sometimes sit together, Slovaks and Roma, when we are at the pub together.”
A new friend of TOY, who we met at the EECERA 2017 conference in Bologna, Stella Conroy from Families Australia, shared a very interesting article on intergenerational learning between young children and older adults in Adelaide, Australia.
Children were nervous at first knowing older adults were going to visit them, but through the well thought through activities the relationship between young and old soon blossomed and the visits have become a regular occurance. TOY always stresses the importance of good planning and continuity in intergenerational relationships.
